#KaonSerye: Trying out Manzoku

Manzoku is a local Japanese restaurant in Felcris Centrale Mall. To be honest, I didn't know about Manzoku until I started working around the area. They have been open for two years now but I haven't heard a thing or two about them. Curious and starving as we were, Keen and I decided to try it out.

Among the only three restos in Centrale, Manzoku is probably the most expensive. But among all the Japanese restaurants I've tried here in Davao, they have the most value for money. They serve bigger sushi at a budget friendly price. Tip: order their sushi platter for maximum savings

Manzoku's Premium Sushi Platter

There was no salmon available during our first visit so they used malasugue instead. It was my first time to try a malasugue sushi and it was good. Then on the second visit, there was only tuna so we asked if we could mix it with unagi. Good thing they agreed! All the fish they served were fresh. Their unagi sushi did not disappoint us either. It had the right balance of sweet, salty and umami. Every sushi was a satisfying mouthful. If Keen and I were not such big eaters, the platter would have been more than enough for both of us.

We also ordered their ramen. But just like all the other ramens I've tried here in Davao, no one is still at par with the quality of ramens in Manila. Manzoku has a good mix of seafood and vegetables but their broth was lacking. Their 'tamago' was a plain boiled egg. Keen liked it better than I did though. It was a tasty soup that can warm up a cold windy day. Their ramen was okay but not really the best in town.

Pork and Seafood Ramen

We ordered their gyoza and yakisoba during our second visit. I liked their gyoza a lot. Each ground pork dumpling was flavored and sized appropriately that I could finish the whole plate myself.

Manzoku's Gyoza

It was Keen's first time to try authentic yakisoba. He was used to the instant ones we usually find in the supermarket. That's why he was initially skeptical about my order. But when he tried Manzoku's yakisoba, he was impressed that he ate more than half of it.

Classic Yakisoba

Here are other things we look into a Japanese restaurant that we checked out in Manzoku:

1. Good quality wasabi ✔️
2. Wet towel ✖️
3. Service tea ✔️

Their staff is friendly and quick to respond too :)

The overall experience was good. We were really full afterwards. Plus, we only paid almost two thirds of our typical bill in a Japanese restaurant. We are definitely coming back to order again the sushi platter and try their curry based noodle soup.

We took pictures of their menu for our future reference.

Note that this is as of March 11, 2017 and prices or availability may vary without any notice.

Manzoku is located at GF Alfresco area, Felcris Centrale Mall, Quimpo Boulevard. They are open from 11am-9:30pm.
