Barangay, Police and NBI Clearances in Davao City

I was recently processing my pre-employment requirements for my new job. Barangay, Police and NBI clearances are the three basic clearances being requested for employment. While it’s ok to go directly to the offices where these clearances are being requested, it’s always an advantage to research first on the process and its prerequisites for smooth sailing applications.

How to Get a Barangay Clearance

I belong to barangay Matina so I got my barangay clearance from the Matina barangay hall located near Centerpoint Matina. You may look into this site for your barangay’s contact number for more info: http://www.davaocity.gov.ph/davao/district.aspx

To get your barangay clearance, you must bring with you your Purok Clearance (to be issued by your purok leader) and Community Tax Certificate (also known as Cedula). After presenting these, you’ll have to log some basic info in their books and you will pay a fee for the issuance of the clearance. I only paid 25 pesos for this. They will be taking your picture after the payment. It was not a busy afternoon so it took me less than 30 min to get my clearance.

How to Get a Police Clearance

You can get your Police Clearance at the Davao City Police Station in San Pedro Street. If you’re coming from Boulevard, it’s on the right side before the DBP bank.

Before going to the police station, go first to the Sangguniang Panlungsod nearby and pay for the police clearance (25 pesos for local employment). Make sure you also have your Community Tax Certificate with you. If you don’t have a CTC yet, may also get it in the Sanggunian along with the payment for the police clearance. Don’t be shy to ask guidance from the people around.

After getting your OR and CTC, you may now proceed to the Police Station where you will be leaving an ID at the gate. The office for the police clearance is located near the gym. First, get an application form from the first window. You can get it directly from them and no need to line up. After filling up the form, you may line up at the first window and present the accomplishmmed form along with your CTC and the OR from the Sanggunian. The lady will give you a number and wait for it to be called up.

Once your number is called (this will be called in batches of ten), you’ll be asked to come inside the office for your picture to be taken. While waiting for your turn, you will be requested to pay P100 for the printing of the clearance. When it’s already your turn, some details in the application will be verified after which your picture will be taken. After this step, you will wait again outside for your name to be called for the releasing of clearance in the second window. Don’t forget your ID at the gate before you leave! (I almost did :P)

How to Get an NBI Clearance

I did not get my latest NBI clearance in Davao for my employment since I recently acquired it in Cebu. Nonetheless, the process is consistent all throughout the country since they’ve implemented the online application system. The online application eliminates a lot of steps in acquiring an NBI clearance.  You have to take note that because of the online application, you will have to get the clearance the next day due to the scheduling process of the system.

To begin your online application, go to this website: www.nbi-clearance.com. Assuming that you don’t have an NBI Clearance account yet, you have to register first for an account. Once you’ve already set-up and activated your account, you may now sign in to their website. From there, you may now apply for a clearance. Supply the details being requested and double check before saving the information. Submit your application by clicking the button “Apply for Clearance”.  After submitting your application, you will be asked to schedule an appointment date with your selected NBI branch to get your clearance. If you’re lucky, the earliest date you can find is the next day.

You will also be asked in the website to provide the purpose of your NBI Clearance, whether it is for local or abroad. Further to the purpose, provide the specific details for the application (e.g. local employment, passport application). After these specifications, your total amount due will automatically be computed. You may pay this fee through any of the following:

•Banks (Over the Counter or Online)

•Mobile (Payment through GCASH)

•Bayad Centers

An NBI Clearance payment reference number will be given to you for your payment in any of these methods. Once you have paid, your application status will now change from “Pending” to “Paid”.

On the day of your schedule with NBI, be sure to bring your printed online application form and 2 valid IDs. Go to any NBI personnel for assistance and show them that you are an online applicant. In my case in Cebu, I was asked to fall in line and wait for my turn in the biometrics. After this, just wait patiently for your NBI Clearance to be released.

All these clearance applications are updated as of last week of May 2016 and are based on my own experiences. Feel free to add some updates in the comment section below. I hope this has been helpful to you all. Good luck! :)

    1. Hi. Under the baranggay are different puroks or smaller groups/clusters of residential area. The purok leader is the one issuing the purok clearance.
